The Nepean Blue Mountains Hawkesbury Regional (NBMH) of the Rose Society of NSW Inc. held its 10th Anniversary on 1st June, having its inauguration meeting in May 2009.
Doug Hayne (Chairman and Hon. Secretary of the Rose Society of NSW Inc.), Glynis Hayne (Hon. Secretary and President of the Rose Society of NSW Inc. at the time), Brian Knight (Hon. Treasurer) and the late Trevor Grant (Vice-Chairman) were the Foundation executives of the Regional. Alina Thornbury, Denis and Sue Gallagher were three original members of the 25 Founding members, of which another five were unable to attend the meeting.
The Regional held its meetings at Jamisontown Public School for the first eight years, having moved to Leonay Golf Club in 2018. Meetings are held on the first Saturday of each month, commencing at 10:00am, except in January.
Members enjoy the semi-formal get together, where information such as care, propagating, pruning and planting of roses is shared. A monthly show bench, where members can exhibit their flowers, is held between October to June for those who wish a bit of healthy competition. Doug and Glynis Hayne are Senior Rose Judges with the Rose Society of NSW Inc.
The Regional also holds a Spring Show, which will be held at St Dominic’s College, Kingswood on Sunday 13th October from 12:00pm to 4:00pm. Members receive discounts on certain products, a Quarterly State Newsletter and an Australian as part of their membership.
This month, Doug Hayne will be stepping down from his position as Chairman. The Regional members would like to pay tribute and thank him for his leadership throughout the ten years.
