With February now upon us, Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and the perfect time to share a love story.
Locals who have celebrated over 5 decades of love and marriage, Mulgoa’s Wally and Margaret Cox have done just that, 51 years to be exact!
Wally and Margaret were married in Parramatta on 30th July in 1971. Their story would begin before this. Three years prior, back in 1968, they met at a dance in Luddenham at the Progress Hall. Dancing together on the dance floor, their worlds collided.
The Cox family would later settle in Mulgoa in 1972. Life was much simpler and Mulgoa Village was much smaller.
Wally and Margaret now have 2 children and 8 grandchildren.
Family means everything to them. “Family are people we love. They complete our lives” said Wally and Margaret in agreeance.
Time with family is important. They enjoy going out to lunch locally. Welcome Chinese Restaurant and Warragamba Workers Club are two places they love to visit with family and friends.
Spending over 50 years with one another would bring some memorable moments. Some of the best moments are sharing a laugh together.
“We both have a similar sense of humour. Going through life, we make each other laugh” smiled Wally and Margaret.
They can both sum up the secret to a long and happy marriage in three words, “Love, patience, and understanding”. Valentine’s Day is Tuesday 14th February.
