What a special day it was at The Lakes Christian College last month, when so many grandparents and special friends came to the school to be part of the education of their students. Almost 200 guests attended the special assembly and were entertained with a variety of musical items.
As part of the celebrations, the students participated in Music Count Us In – Australia’s largest school initiative. It is the education program of Music Australia, working with partners around the country to support music in schools. Music Count Us In plays a vital role in fostering music education in schools, with a presence in every state and territory in the country. It is internationally recognised as the world’s largest school music initiative.
The program culminates in the National Celebration Day when more than half a million students sing the same song, on the same day, at the same time. It is a song written by students and for students. Primary students at The Lakes Christian College (almost 200) taught by Mrs Bell, had learnt this year’s song ‘We Are’ and created various arrangements to accompany their performance. Classes played percussion instruments that included boomwhackers, chime bars, recorders and glockenspiels and year 6 composed their own bucket drumming arrangement.
After the assembly, guests visited classrooms and joined in on activities with their children. The children also enjoyed sharing morning tea with their families. The school would like to send a big thank you to all the families who came and made the day such a success.
