Glenbrook – Blaxland Cricket Club have taken to the 2019/2020 season with high hopes, thanks to success on the pitch last year. The local club saw 6 Senior teams play in the finals and their Thunder Girls Cricket League team winning their Grand Final and included a premiership in the Winter cricket competition.
This season sees them bolstered with 115 players over 10 teams in the Juniors and 127 over 7 teams in the Seniors. With Australian fast bowler Pat Cummins and Sydney Sixers’ Jordan Silk coming through the junior ranks, it’s an exciting club to be a part of.
“I’m looking forward to watching the development of the kids and hopefully growing the numbers involved in playing. We have a mainly father and son team in 9th Grade that is captained by a great young bloke named Matt, who himself is only in his second year of Senior’s cricket. The rest of the sons in the team all still qualify in the Under 16’s competition but have stepped up into Seniors to have the opportunity to play with their dads” said Richard Minton, President of Glenbrook – Blaxland Cricket Club.
The Australian Cricket team’s recent series win against England in The Ashes was spearheaded by Cummins and the club is proud of their local hero.
“I think it is great that Pat has acknowledged his roots and it shows kids that the dream of playing for Australia is not impossible. With Pat being such a popular member of the Australian Cricket team, it has drawn people into wanting to play for the club as has been shown by the increase in team numbers in both Juniors and Seniors” explained Richard.
“I’m in admiration of the people involved with our club and the tireless work that they do. Whether it be our Senior or Junior Vice Presidents, our Committee, the Coaches, Managers, parents or volunteers – everyone is working towards the common goal of the growth and enjoyment of the game” he ended.
