With Spring in the air, it’s that perfect time of the year for the local community to get out and about and enjoy the great outdoors, including the Nepean River. Many of us take the Great River Walk, relax and take in the scenery on the Nepean Belle or just have a BBQ with family and friends on the nearby banks. For Emu Heights photographer Brett Pascoe, it’s also the ideal location to capture our river in all its beauty.

“The Nepean River is a great place. It has a wide variety of elements to take photos of, whether it’s the river itself, wildlife or the activity on the water and let’s not forget the bridges. I love the fact that my son Noah, who is 12, is getting a taste for photography too. I suppose its family and nature that draws me to these places” explained Brett to the Emu and Leonay Gazette.

The talented local’s work has been recognised, with Brett winning the Penrith City Council Bragging Rights Photography Competition in 2017. He also placed third that year in the Open Category of the Penrith City Council Environmental Photo Competition with his stunning landscape photograph titled ‘Golden Nepean’.

“I do have work with photography, but it’s quite random and I would love to do it fulltime one day. I’ve done work for the local council and a few PR companies. I’ve just donated some photos to the new Cancer Ward at the Nepean Hospital too” Brett said

“I work for Lion Dairy in Penrith and I am lucky that they encourage my creativity with photos and videos in my project work. I would love for National Geographic to ring and say here’s a bag of money, go to this island, take photos of everything and see you in a month!” he added.

The next time you pick up your camera, whether it’s by the Nepean River or even in the bush of the Blue Mountains, Brett has these words of advice, “Photograph what makes you happy. Learn as much as you can but be yourself and own your own style. Don’t over think it and enjoy what you do”.
