Gardeners looking for inspiration or just wanting to experience the beauty of Spring in the world heritage listed Upper Blue Mountains, will again be flocking to the annual Leura Gardens Festival in October.
This year’s Festival, the 55th, is open from 9:30am to 4:30pm and will take place for six days over two long weekends:
Saturday, 5 October to Monday, 7 October
Friday, 11 October to Sunday, 13 October
The 2019 Festival will feature 10 glorious cool climate Spring gardens – displaying a feast of new growth, masses of flowers, gorgeous bulbs and an amazing variety of cold-climate plants including wonderful deciduous trees which will just be coming into their full glory.
With gardens at their very best in Spring, the Festival has always been a magnet for visitors seeking not only to enjoy the beauty that is on show, but also seeking inspiration for their own gardens.
An all-gardens ticket costs $30 or $8 per individual garden. The all-gardens ticket is valid over the six days of the Festival.
There is a wide range of garden types taking place this year, from the majestic acres of Everglades and The Braes to the intimacy of several smaller gardens, including the delightful St Annes and Hill of Grace.
The Braes is returning after a break and offers an extensive display of trees and shrubs, some approaching 100 years old, and a rich diversity of perennials and annuals. Also, a rose garden has been established as well as an orchard with over 20 varieties of fruit and nut trees and thousands of bulbs.
Other Festival attractions include the Music in the Gardens program held on each of the six days, the popular Art Show featuring works painted in the Festival gardens, and a wide range of wonderful plants and garden accessories at the Festival Plant Sales Centre. The Art Show and the Plant Sales are open for nine days from Saturday, 5 October.
Festival proceeds go to the Blue Mountains District ANZAC Memorial Hospital and other local health-related organisations.
