Even though author, Lisa Finn Powell, is the mother of five children aged 10-27, she feels a lot like a first-time mum after the publication of her new book, The Thin Time. “I’m so proud of my ‘book baby’” said Finn Powell. “It was a very long time in the making, and now I just want to share it with everyone”.
The book launched last month at 20 Mile Hollow Cafe in Woodford. It was a family affair. Her very talented children included, Grace, an actor, who gave the introductory speech; Will, a trained photographer, held his exhibition ‘Sensations of Grief’; Nick, a musician, performed his original song ‘Decade’ written for his father; Belle, wrote the foreword in the book and ten-year-old Charlie was also there in support. Her graphic designer husband Vinnie, typeset the book and designed the cover. Finn Powell is also a musician and sang at the event.
The Thin Time is the story of a very difficult time in the author’s life, when her late husband, Paul, died and she had four young children to raise after discovering they were completely financially unprepared. It is a memoir of grief, loss, hope and the lessons she learned by listening to the wind blowing though the gum trees.
